How to contribute to the Treehouse

Hello Everyone,

I thought it might be helpful to create a little ‘How to…’ guide to explain the functionality we have currently in our Treehouse and where to find it.

First of all, how can we create a new topic in our Treehouse?

There are two places where you can start a new conversation: one can be found in the top righthand corner of the page, called, “+New Topic

The other place where you can start a new topic in at the bottom of each page, where you can click the line that says:

When you click either one of those links, a new box shows up, enabling you to add in all of the information you want to share. If you clicked it by accident, and don’t want to post something after all, please click the little ‘roof’ icon to make the topic box disappear again.

If you did start to write something but never posted it, the system will remember your draft for you, which is quite nifty

If you start a conversation, you can choose which category to post the conversation in. (Or change the category should it be prefilled already but you want to post it somewhere else). You can also add tags to help others find your content quicker.

As you can see below, there are many different options you have to style your post, add pictures, links, emoji’s, and so on. If you click on the little downwards ‘arrow’ you will hide the input box again

If you are not yet ready to start your own topic, you can of course always join in already existing conversations. And you do this by clicking on the ‘reply arrow’ as pointed out below. You can find these ‘reply arrows’ on each post as well as at the bottom of the topic.

Once you’ve clicked ‘reply’ you will be presented with the reply input box and you can use similar functionality as when you create a new topic.

Navigating the Treehouse, and viewing the content can be done in three ways. As standard the Treehouse will sort all of our conversations with the very latest being right at the top. If you click the word ‘Top’, it will sort the conversations in order of the most popular. And lastly, you can view the community by the different categories we’ve created to keep everything a bit more organised.

Below you can the different categories on the lefthand side, and the latest topics on the righthand side.

Should you choose to navigate to a specific category, you will only see topics related to that category. As shown below:

I hope this gives you a little insight into how the system works, but as always, please feel free to ask any questions you might have and we’ll do our best to help you out

Have fun and I hope to see your posts in our Treehouse soon!

Vincent
